Pocahontas teaches John Smith about the world around him.
She lowers his gun barrel as he points it to a bear, a bear protecting her baby cubs.

Pocahontas informs him of much he is yet to learn, things you cannot be taught, things you need to feel.  These ideas made no sense until learning and sharing take place helping him notice what he
has never seen before.

.....she eloquently puts it

'You think the only people who are people
Are the people who look and think like you
But if you walk the footsteps of a stranger
You'll learn things you never knew you never knew!'

Today I am both surprised and unsurprised as I watch a link of a teenage girl with autism who begins to communicate through typing.  She is articulate and so telling of her life inside her world. For me it is just another example of if you walk the footsteps of a stranger, you'll learn things you never knew you never knew.
